SALES TAX REALLOCATION
As many of you may be aware, many smaller cities including Little Flock are facing a steep increase in what we are being charged to provide ambulance services to its citizens. In years past this amount, $17,281, was able to be budgeted through our regular revenue streams. However, when we were tagged with an increase up to $53,687, this provided an expense we were unable to meet without severe and crippling effects to our budget and the services the city provides its citizens.
In 2004, you the citizens voted to enact a 1 cent sales tax to provide revenue for roads. Those tax dollars generate approximately $70,000 that can only be used for roads and related expenses in its current form. In the last 2 years, the city council has approved dollars to be transferred to allow road improvement projects to be expedited rather than wait for funds to grow in order to pay for those projects. Currently, the city council feels that although all road projects are not complete, we have made enormous progress throughout the city.
In the last elections, a state wide 1/2 cent sales tax was passed for road projects. This means that the City of Little Flock will receive an estimated additional $42,000 annually to its road budget.
The City Council discussed and voted to have a special election to ask the citizens to re appropriate our current 1 cent sales tax in the following manner. We propose 50% of this tax to remain for roads, which coupled with the state tax, will safely maintain our road funds. The remaining 50% will fund a newly created Emergency Services Fund. The Emergency Service Fund will be used to pay for ambulance services, but can also be used for Police and Fire services if needs arise. Our true intent is to use these new funds to ensure our citizens of continued ambulance services. However, if in the future, other means of providing ambulance services are met, we can continue to use funds in the Emergency Service Fund for our city’s Emergency Service departments.
4 YEAR TERMS FOR ALDERMEN
The City of Little Flock currently has six (6) City Alderman, each of which are elected for a two (2) year term. Currently all City Alderman stand for election at the same time. The City of Little Flock is divided into three (3) wards, and each ward is represented by two (2) Alderman. In an effort to provide continuity of City Government, this proposal would change the terms from two (2) years to four (4) years. If this proposal is adopted, Alderman 1 from each ward would be elected to a four (4) year term in 2016, Alderman 2 would be elected for a two (2) year term. In November 2018, Alderman 2 from each ward would be elected to a four (4) year term. Every two (2) years thereafter; half of the City Council would stand for election.

In 2011 the city of Little Flock got its identity and we became Little Flock, AR with the United States Postal Service. This was very important because of the industry trend for internet shopping. If you have something shipped to your house in Little Flock, you should be charged 8.5% sales tax, in which 1% goes to Little Flock. If you notice that you are being charged 9.5% sales tax then 2% is going to Rogers and 0% to the city you live in. If you are not doing so already, please use Little Flock, AR as your mailing address. Let’s keep Little Flock money in Little Flock and save some money for you also.
I’ll put my 2 cents here.
I moved into an apartment complex within Little Flock, even though my physical address is Rogers. I tried to get a library card in Rogers, and I couldn’t. The blame is on Lindsey Properties. Amazing how a few feet will limit the ability to check out books from a public library.
I do have an issue: 22nd Street, north of Hudson Road. The 25 MPH speed limit sign is almost destroyed, and is non-visible at night. The Little Flock city limits sign needs an update too.
I’ll keep my other opinions to myself.
Thank you.
Wow, I should have re-read this stuff, before I posted before.
Unreal… Little Flock needs to dissolve. I understand the pride thing… but the begging of it. And did the sales tax issue pass? Little Flock streets can be 3rd World country! I move a few inches to the right and I’ll end up in a ditch! No sidewalks, no street lights.
This is a late comment, but I didn’t want the last comment here to be a negative one.
In a nutshell, Little Flock is it’s own city. It’s not a pride thing, it’s a city thing. I’m not sure what was presented would make anyone think that the city needed to dissolve. The sales tax measure did in fact pass, and this will help with ambulance fees and emergency service needs as they may arise in the future. Streets are being worked on, but it is a process. Little Flock is a rural city and as such does not have many sidewalks or street lights, that’s how most of the residents wanted the city to be. The apartments in Little Flock have sidewalks and street lights. Little Flock is a wonderful city, and it’s only through sharing our opinions and ideas that we will be able to better the community. Come to City Council meetings, Planning Meetings and make contact with your City leaders, this is how problems are solved and ideas shared.
Wanting to move back to Arkansas and want a countrified atmosphere like I am in here in Fredonia Ks. Do not want a big city. I have almost 15 yr old twin boys that will be 10th graders next yr. In the articles I have read do not seem that bad. All smaller communities have these things to deal with to make things work best for all. How big is little Flock?? What is the high school like?? Any rental homes reasonably priced? I need more info
. I went to high school in Farmington. Loved it. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it and thank you.
